About Me

Personal

My name is Mohammad Hamid and If you’re reading this, you should know that I very much much prefer in person conversations. Unfortunately, we live in a time where face-to-face conversations are slowly being replaced by glowing screens and scrolling feeds, so here we are. Now that I got that out of the way, a little bit about me…

My wife and I consider ourselves privileged to call the historic Capitol Park district in Downtown Detroit, Michigan home. Being part of the daily rhythm of this city is something we don’t take for granted, whether it’s supporting local businesses or stumbling into hidden spots we hadn’t noticed before.

Music has always been a big part of my life, everything from the depth of Indian/Pakistani Classical to the grit of the Blues and the swing of Jazz. It’s a soundtrack that keeps me grounded. I am committed to the topic of mental health awareness, a cause close to my heart and my own personal journey, and I try, imperfectly but earnestly, to do what I can to grow as an individual. On a more playful note, I spend a lot of time chasing basketballs and squash balls (squash blog: racquetprep.com) In both cases, my ambition sometimes outpaces my actual skill level, but that’s part of the fun.

Professional

Professionally, most of my network grew out of my time as an entrepreneur. I naively helped start a company called Unison. Far too early in life and far before I had the requisite professional skills, but that story is for another time. Unison was a software company working at the crossroads of social listening and sustainability for the automotive, industrial, and healthcare worlds. My role was a little bit of everything, from product development to marketing, sales, and finance.Along the way, I had the privilege, and sometimes the challenge, of working directly with Chief Communications and Marketing Officers from some iconic brands such as Mazda, Harley-Davidson, Ford, General Motors, DTE Energy, Southern Company, and Sanofi. It was equal parts exhilarating and humbling, and it gave me a crash course in what it takes to build relationships at the highest levels.
